I liked most of these. But I am considering a campaign to end the use of Trajan. It is so unfortunate that a really nice caps-only serif typeface, classic and beautifully proportioned, has been SO PLAYED OUT. This font is f@%king everywhere! And so often used inappropriately. I dare you to find a movie poster or a book published since 2005 that doesn’t have Trajan embossed all over it (probably in bold-face). I’ve gotten to the point where I can’t even take a designer seriously if they have chosen Trajan, because they have obviously not taken the time to consider any of the overwhelming variety of beautiful typefaces that aren’t Trajan, the DIRTY WHORE of typography.

@Ken, Thanks for the comment. I’ve heard this anti-Trajan bit before, but under the same set of thinking no designer would be able to use Helvetica, Garamond, Din Schrift, Trade Gothic, Rockwell or a host of others. There is a group of typefaces that seem to be in everything, with good reason. They’re all around great fonts. (And we’re lazy designers.)

Awesome. I think you picked some really good ones on this list. As for ideas … hmm … perhaps a quote from C.S. Lewis? or G.K. Chesterton? (here’s one of his I like: “An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered; an adventure is an inconvenience rightly considered.” – On Running After Ones Hat, All Things Considered, 190
Both those men were somewhat around FDR and Churchill’s era, so they have similar wit and phrases that I think would work well for these wallpapers. Hope that helps!
