Artist Brian Andreas once said, “I like geography best … because your mountains & rivers know the secret. Pay no attention to boundaries.” He could have been talking about this enormous 36″ x 24″ rendering of American rivers created by Michael Bostock as part of this tutorial on vector drawings.
Like an anatomical chart of an organism, it’s beautiful, minimalist, and detailed at same time. It’s the perfect showpiece for a living room where guests will see it and linger, picking out local rivers they know. It also works well in an office or bedroom for something surprising and profound – a reminder that America is an interconnected, living system.
This version – 100% free, as always – is scaled down to fit in white Ikea Ribba frame size 24″ x 35.75″
I printed at Costco for only $14.99 at 24″x36″ – note, however, that you can't order this size online. You’ll also want to check that your local Costco does larger prints like this; some do, some don’t. If Costco isn’t an option, a Staples architectural print should do the trick.
If you end up printing it, I'd love to see a photo! Post it in the comments or tag @primermagazine on Instagram and @primermag on Twitter.
