$11 Polarized Wayfarer Style Sunglasses with Free Prime Shipping
Better cheap sunglasses.

When it comes to sunglasses, guys fall into one of three camps. Some invest a day's pay into quality specs but are forced to carry a case and track them like a first-time mom with a toddler. Those who are resigned to gas station models because they’ve lost and broken one too many pairs to warrant spending more. Then there are the poor souls like me, who enjoy the advantages of higher priced shades but can’t justify paying for them.

That’s why I was excited to find these specs by Gamma Ray on Amazon for a paltry $11, free shipping included for Prime members. They’re polarized UV400 lenses, meaning they block 99-100% of the suns harmful rays, while also cutting through glare on surfaces like water or road pavement.

Make no mistake, these aren’t $100 sunglasses, but – the optics are great for the price and the shape is in the style of the New Wayfarer. These are perfect for either a guy who doesn’t spend a lot of dough on sunglasses or for a guy who’s been curious about wearing this style of sunglasses but didn’t want to pull the trigger on an expensive version just in case he doesn’t like it. (Hint: He will, I guarantee it.)

Don’t take my word for it, they have over 250 reviews with a 4 star average rating on Amazon. Two things worth noting: Gamma Ray calls them “Cheaters” and so this is emblazoned on the side in cursive. I’m not a fan of that, but it’s innocuous enough if nobody knows what they say already. They’re also not super tinted, in comparison to some I’ve owned, but it hasn’t bothered me.

Pick up a pair of the tortoise frame with green lens on Amazon for $11.

I’ve been wearing these since the start of the summer. They are so much better than the $20 pairs you’ll find at places like Target. Lightweight, comfortable (don’t leave indentions on my nose like most cheap shades) and stylish.

Nice write-up. What about the Gamma Ray Tomcat? Aviator styling. Lightweight, solid Titanium frame. $18.95 shipped. Just offering up an alternative for anyone who might be looking for aviators. http://amzn.com/B00O99R73Q

Nice! I’m not a big fan of the tear drop aviators right now, a little too early 00’s for my tastes, but these look like a decent option if you’re in the market.

I agree. I’ve been thinking about picking up a pair of American Optics “Original Pilot” glasses ever since I read your review and recommendation back in April. While I’ve got you here, I’d like to say thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable, and helpful site. I’ve recommended Primer to a few friends who also seem to enjoy your reviews and tips. Many thanks!

You can’t go wrong with the AO, I love mine!

they must have noticed the traffic coming from primer and raised the price! they’re now $19.95. boo

Hey Kaelin, That’s for the 3 pack, if you click on the tortoise shell / green lens option it’s still $10.95

        Nice!! thanks Andrew!

I had a pair of American Optics “Original Pilot” glasses and I must say I love the J.Crew $20 Square framed Aviator much better. They are lighter and for the price it wouldn’t kill me if I lost them. Just purchased a pair of the Gamma Ray Tortoise Shell / Green Lens Wayfarer, and they should be here Wednesday, we shall see!

I spend the $30 on polarized Knockaround Fort Knocks… Nice look and perfect fit for my nose, so I stick with them.

They are gone now. At least for the time being. I ordered them, and then amazon told me they were out. Thanks for the heads up Andrew, keep those deals coming.

Now they are back in. 🙂

Nuts. I just paid “full price” (~$80 on eBay) for the real thing. But I’m glad I got the classics. Afraid the NEW wayfarers would be too tiny for my tastes. But for $11, and a pair I won’t have to treat like a toddler, maybe I’ll give the new style a try.

  • Greggie

Andrew, picked up some of these. They rock! Great find, thanks for the heads up.

Andrew, thanks for this insight. They are great. I like the polarized lenses, and their good looks.

    Just a word of caution…

I ordered a pair of these and received them on 3/1/16. These are NOT modeled after the RB2132 New Wayfarer sunglasses. I was looking for a cheap pair that are identical to the RB2132 model since I will be going on a trip. I don’t want to risk my RB2132 sunglasses getting lost or damaged, so a cheap pair would be perfect. I wouldn’t care if the cheap pair gets destroyed. I read the article and figured these would serve the purpose. As soon as I received them, I knew these were not the New Wayfarer style. Although the quality for the price is great, these don’t do it for me.

I’m still on the quest to find a cheap pair of sunglasses identical to the RB2132 New Wayfarers.
