There’s something about choosing gifts for people — especially if those people are women — that can provoke anxiety in even the savviest, most self-assured guys. So if you’re drawing a blank when it comes to buying holiday presents for the women on your list, take heart. Great gift-givers are made, not born.
At its core, a great gift isn’t the newest, shiniest, or most expensive thing. It’s something that makes the recipient think, “hey, they really get me.” Making someone feel noticed and appreciated doesn’t have to be difficult, but it does require a bit of thought.
It’s usually a safe bet to buy something that will help your recipient pursue her interests, but just getting your girlfriend new sneakers because she’s a runner isn’t necessarily the best move…unless you know her shoe size and favorite brand, and whether she under or overpronates.
A great gift also doesn’t have to be something that she doesn’t already own. Maybe it’s a nicer or upgraded version of something she already has and likes.
A carefully chosen gift that lets friends and loved ones know that you’re thinking of them — especially if you can’t see them in person — will be appreciated long after the initial thrill of unwrapping a gift has faded.
We crowdsourced a variety of gifts that will delight the women on your gift list and/or make their lives easier. Rather than categorize gifts by relationship (e.g., for sister, mom, friend, girlfriend, co-worker, etc.) we organized gifts by interest. So think about what makes the special women you’re shopping for so special, and go from there.
