Live Action Getup: Downtown LA Creative Meeting

Dressing for a client meeting in an incredibly casual industry in an incredibly casual city can be baffling. I photographed Primer reader Shane right after a pitch to a client. Guess what? He got the project.

I bought a couple OCBDs from H&M back in the fall and they are big, billowing puffy shirts that I do not even wear. Is the cut different now?

    • browneagle44 ロベルト

He might have sized down, or gotten a tailor. A good one can definitely work miracles :)

    • Anders L.S.

If you want good cut, try Hugh & Crye. They have awesome OCBDs and great fits. I’m a really tall and skinny guy and they fit me fantastically.

Frugal alternative to the Persols – http://amzn.to/1Txlssf

    • http://www.primermagazine.com/ Andrew

Nice!! I’m going to feature those.

      • http://lefkowitz.me Michael Lefkowitz

They’re great. I bought a second pair, too cheap not to.

      • Christian Naylor

If I’m not mistaken, you already featured basically the same ones.

The ones I featured are the New Wayfarer style, these are slightly more round. Both great choices though!

          • Jesse

The AJ Morgan Castros are a great cheap Persol alternative as well. Currently on sale for $13 http://goo.gl/rg7csr

  • Will

It looks like the shirt’s up to $40 now.

The Cole Haan shoes are great. I have a pair of suede Cole’s that are comfortable and look casual yet not. Great look.

    • http://www.primermagazine.com/ Andrew

Nice! I have a pair of wingtips that straddle the casual/dress line perfectly.

      • Daniel Cook

Andrew, part of the reason I love Primer is because you typically find very stylish looks for great prices. I LOVE these Cole Haan Wingtips, however, I can’t convince my wife that I need $170 shoes. Can you think of an alternative that resembles these?

        • http://www.primermagazine.com/ Andrew

Totally get it. Cole Haan has a lock on the dress-shoe-with-a-sneaker-sole unfortunately, but any standard wingtip would look amazing too.

  • Ross

Great look. Big fan of the Navy Oxford, although I prefer the GAP style and cut a little better than the H&M. It’s nice to see a variety of Dark Denim, Light Denim, and Now Black Denim being used these days however I’m not a big fan of the very narrow ankle on the skinny jeans. And I absolutely HATE the rolled up ankle showing ankle no sock look! To me the no sock look should be outlawed to only boat shoes and shorts and if you decide to go with a no sock pants look the leg should conceal the ankle. I just think that the rolled up skinny ankle jean and no sock showing ankle look has ruined the men’s style industry. Again just my opinion! Otherwise great look Shane.

    • http://www.primermagazine.com/ Andrew

“Your look has ruined the men’s style industry! But otherwise, good stuff!” 😀 haha Just kidding!!! Yeah, the sockless look is a very personal decision, and I think also depends on how common it is where you live. I’m personally new to the sockless with pants look but I’ve been experimenting with it more. This look would still kill with socks, so add when necessary. :)

      • Ross

Hahaha, sorry about the mixed opinion. That just shows how much I was disappointed at the feet Portion of this outfit. I live in Minnesota so I’m forced to be true to the no socks only with boat shoes look. So I understand looking for and applying new trends. But the sock less rolled pants showing ankle looks seems, to me, a trend that was established just for the sake of establishing a trend.

You can definitely wear this somewhere besides LA.

Would be a nice feature to have a Getup that features everything from one store. Like an H&M Getup that someone could put together all at one place. Love all these, thanks guys

  • Michael

I like the look a lot. Haven’t been to LA. Is it really that casual there?

    • http://www.primermagazine.com/ Andrew

Been here 10 years. It’s very, very casual. If I’m wearing a tie I’m the most dressed up person in the room.

  • Sebastian

Looking to follow in the footsteps the the recently released Nike KD 8 EXT, this Nike Kobe 10 EXT High looks to garner the same attention. With a look very similar to the KD version, let’s take a look at this Kobe sneaker that combines an all black upper with a Cheap Air Jordan 9 gum bottom.Since the Black Mamba missed a large portion of last season, we didn’t get to see him wear the Kobe 10 as much as some people hoped. That all changes now as Kobe has already been spotted wearing some PE colorways nike free trainer of his 10th signature sneaker with Nike during the preseason. Up above we get a look at a “Home” Lakers colorway that he may or may not be lacing up at some point this season. This Nike Kobe 10 Elite features a white kobe high top flyknit upper with purple detailing on the translucent midsole and the Nike check on the side panels. Gold outlining on the Swoosh and a translucent outsole wrap things up.Like the Air Jordan 1 Pinnacle last year, the Air Jordan 4 Premium launches Lebron 12(XII) For Sale this spring, a radical, high-fashion reimagining of an iconic silhouette.Premium black leather stretches over the upper, with croc-embossing throughout imparting a designer touch. Touches nike huarache run shoes of faux pony hair underscore the heightened sartorial sensibilities, appearing where TPU netting typicall does, and a white outsole offers stark contrast while keeping the palette cool and simple. The Air Jordan 4 Premium Pony Hair releases March 26 at select Jordan accounts nationwide, and they wont come cheap; $400 a pop. While donning festive colors of bright red for its flyknit upper, in addition to an inner patch kobe x for sale embroidered on the tongue, which reads, “Mamba Greetings,” these prominent details almost suggest that the silhouette is leaning towards “Christmas,” given the suggested release date is scheduled on Christmas Eve – although not officially confirmed as of yet.Last but not least is Womens Air Jordans 11 the Air Audacity which will be worn by Anthony Davis. The Air Audacity brings the power of “The Brow” to the court and features a black upper with blue and yellow edetialing. The sneaker is completed with a heathered textile upper and an Cheap Kobe 9 Elite High embroidered crest detail on the tongue.

Dude, I’d like to know if those jeans are more of twill 5-pocket ones. I’m going from an uber-casj work to biz casj yet would like to retain the look and comfort of denim.

Only $808 dollars for this look!
