I loved reading this. I watched Fat Head The Movie and it really enlightened me to the truth about diets, and it's got to be said, it's pretty scary how dangerous dietary myths become institutionalized...

...we've not really come that far since we burned witches, I guess!

I absolutely agree with Taubes. My cholesterol readings continue to confound my doctors. I eat a high fat/low carb diet, have an amazingly high HDL (2 times my LDL), have lost 25 lbs of fat, and am amazingly healthy thanx to low carb living. And I don' t help to support the presciption drug industry !

Great interview, Josef. It's terrific you got Taubes to distill his findings to a manageable synopsis. The only problem with his book is it's so long and dense I can never persuade people to read it! I'll refer them to your interview now.

The worst obstacle, as he says here, is this notion people have, "Well, okay, reduce carbs, AND still eat low fat." You can convince people of about carb part pretty easily, but people just look at you like you're joking if you tell them fat is actually good for you.

Dr Andrews - This interview is merely asking Taubes of his research, not offering medical advice. Taubes studied applied physics at Harvard and aerospace engineering at Stanford, and was awarded an MIT Knight Science Journalism Fellowship -- he certainly has the education and experience to conduct the research that he's discussing.

I'd love to hear how you disagree with his research.

I love when people who did not goto medical school use 1970's data to give medical advice.

"As a nerd, I keep two different biochemistry textbooks in my office to read for fun."

As a nerd, I must ask: which two?
