Yeah insurance is good way to protect the investment you made in your car. But flashy and fast cars automatically have you pay higher premiums because of the expense associated with these vehicles. Repairs, spare parts, maintenance, as well as the tendency to get into accidents are all factors that contribute to the increased premiums. These are the common factors that car insurance providers look at. Check them out so that you’ll know how you can possibly lower the car insurance premium you’d have to pay for your own car: 1 Your driving history 2 The safety features of your car 3 The model and make of your car 4 Deductibles Thanks for the post

S2BMD, while your points about reputation and unions are certainly true it boils down to if the American car companies made cars more people wanted to buy, either because of styling, reliability, or performance, they wouldn't be in the problem they're in. It may be a 'generalization' to say most don't need a pickup, since most people don't need the hauling ability, but it's certainly not elitest.

Your beating of the US car companies is dead wrong. The problems they have stem from a few things: 1) Their development of a bad repuation in the 80s and 90s. (ex Chrystler Minivan's transmissions, wiring problems, catalytic converter problems, etc) 2) The choke hold the unions have on them. The average UAW was paid, including things like health benefits, $20/hour more than un-unionized plants. Furthermore, the big 3 had rooms for these workers who they didn't have jobs for, to just sit around and do nothing all day long. Yes, the big 3 brought some of it upon themselves, but common. And while you don't need/want a pick-up truck, for many people it is very attractive for its hauling power. Your comment on "pig iron" shows the elitism you hold against these vehicles and that you reject the fact that it might mean something to somebody.

PS

Pig Iron is a intermediate product in the transformation of iron ore to iron. Its a pretty easy internet search. Maybe you should try it?

I think maybe a good point to add, especially in these times, is that when looking for new, and if you cna buy cash, you can lower your standards slightly for that "almost new" car, that on the market is considered "used", but for all intents and purposes, is actually closer to a new car.

A 2009 or 2008 model car with under 5,000 miles can be found, and sometimes they sell for up to 40% less than the sticker price. so for a $25,000 car those 5,000 miles cost $10,000! why not let someone else take that bill?

Also, when buying a used car it is better to buy a car that has a better "core" than another with better "features". What I'm trying to say is if the price is equal, go for the better engine rather than the sunroof and leather on the smaller engine model..

Also, when buying new, avoid "all-new" cars. they usually have more problems, even if they are covered on the warranty, it is hassle and time on your head.
