My boyfriend dumped me a week after we watched “Two Lovers,” a film about a suicidal depressive who must choose between the wild flame and cold comfort. He wouldn’t even hold my hand afterward. Not a good date movie.

I think that you guys have completely misconstrued the point of this article. It’s a tongue and cheek piece and says nothing socially about women or their ability to watch certain films.

The list was more of a comment and parody of guys and their inability to ‘handle’ certain films, not ‘women’. And how watching certain films in a certain order and acting and how acting a certain way would make your girlfriend pretty confused, especially if you don’t tend to watch these kinds of films. More than anything the piece makes ‘fun of’ men, and I am Frankly disappointed in your inability to see beyond this. Perhaps you guys are taking yourselves too seriously!

NB. We do have women who write for the magazine.

this list couldn’t possibly be more far off. My summer of love? A Lisa Minelli musical? Hot latino threesome? Clive Owen and Jude Law? Jennifer Aniston? Titanic?!? Do you know women/have been in a relationship AT ALL??

The assumption that women can’t handle certain cinema–as if we’d rather be watching the Princess Bride than some lesser Lynch work–make the writer sound like he is maybe 19 or 20 and has maybe only dated a woman for about a month. I assumed this was going to be all movies where women break free of their relationships for better lives, or never marry for rad lives of freedom–i.e. Dogville, Out of Africa, etc. Give women some credit. SRSLY.

Also, no one of either gender should be watching late era Star wars.
