Great Article!

I am a Beer fan first but a close second is whiskey (whiskey is at a basic level, fermented beer, coincidence? I think not) some recommended small distillers would be a great addition, and thank you for explaining the differences between all the styles. Cheers to you my friend.

i am a big bourbon fan and i wanted to clarify one thing; the grains listed are: corn, wheat, rye & barley. bourbon is made with three grains with either rye or wheat as the flavor grain. a good example of a high rye content bourbon would be bulliet (pictured in this article) and basil hayden (the original old granddad recipe until jim beam bought it and used the label to hock it's 2.5 yr old whiskey; interesting note, the current old granddad, jim beam, beam black & knob creek are all the same whiskey bottled at different ages, 2.5, 4.5, 8 & 10 yrs respectfully. this is a good way to sample the affects of oak on your whiskey.)) an example of wheat whiskies are maker's mark and woodford reserve (which did introduce a four grain whiskey in 2007, it and hudson are the only two i know of.) as far good or bad whiskey, that's a matter of personal taste. a good whiskey is whichever you like, so try many & compare, try a rye & a wheater, a 4 yr old & a 10. i personally prefer a bottle a $8 kessler's to a $25 bottle of buffalo trace because i enjoy a heartier flavor but booker's is the king of bourbon and all whiskies i've mentioned, and many i haven't, are good in my opinion. if you want to know more pick up a copy of malt advocate or look up Chuck Cowdery online, great blog, book & newsletter. this reminds me, no mention was made of american blended whiskey, of which kessler's is a good example. the end result is essentially bourbon but the process requires making a rye (or wheat) whiskey, a barley malt whiskey & a corn whiskey & then blended rather fermenting the gains together in a single mash as in bourbon. sorry to run on like that, but i'm passionate about my whiskey. oh, & support home distiller's rights.

Fantastic, especially for someone like me who is looking at more cultured alcohol while being surrounded by beer heads. Just would be nicer to have a few more brands mentioned to make it easier to tell the difference between the good and bad
