"I don’t know how much longer I can defend America’s honor when it comes to our lack of high-speed trains." What does "honor" have to do with spending money on certain modes of transportation? Why do you believe that the US should spend money on high speed rail? "Europe and Asia are just sitting there laughing at us, people!" As Europe descends into economic stagnation and demographic oblivion, and as the impoverished billions in Asia suffer from disease, illiteracy, filthy drinking water, and starvation, do you really think that they're laughing at the US because their country has more high speed trains than the US? High speed rail will be, in the same way as light rail has proven to be over the past two decades, a heavily-subsidized money pit that makes the political elites feel good but does nothing improve the transportation woes of the middle class and the working poor.
